A letter concerning young George Moffett Harrison

House of Representatives
February 6 - 1865

His Secretary of War

Sir,

Some months ago I had the honor of nominating for appointment as Cadet in this Army George M. Harrison of Augusta County, but for some reason or other he has not received this appointment, nor has anyone else been appointed from this district represented by me.

Mr. Harrison has been in the service since May 1864 as a member of Merryman's Company of Artillery, in the reserves. In having now attained eighteen years of age, he desires to report for transfer. His service has established, as I knew it would, that he has the soldierly qualities within him for the position for which I recommend him.

Respectfully,
Your obedient servant;

John B. Baldwin
