Viola Jane (Workman)(Jarrell)(Claypool) Elkins was the daughter of Sgt. Jasper Workman and Martha G. (Chambers) Workman. She married first to George Washington Jarrell (They divorced). She married second John Floyd Claypool (They also divorced). She married third McCager Elkins. Viola had a very interesting life. She lived in Oregon and also Alaska for a short time. There is a story about her in 1903. She had a daughter Martha Claypool that died of pneumonia while living in Alaska. She got disgusted with Alaska at that time and had the little girl placed in a coffin and pulled behind the ship as it sailed to Seattle (To keep her fresh in the cold water). She was embalmed in Seattle and placed on a train and shipped back to West Virginia. The cemetery where she was buried as far as we can tell was on the property that later became a coal company in Bald Knob, West Virginia. It is believed that the graves of Viola and her daughter Martha have been long since removed.
