Robert left his parents home shortly after his brother, William, drowned (1884) while they were working during a flood. Uncle Bob said he worked his way out west on the rail. He "rode the train to the end of the line in Wahington State." We feel it was in the Ellensburg area as he homesteaded there. After about 3 years of trying to farm there he turned his team loose and left. He said "no one will ever grow anything in this Godforsaken windy place." Next he was in Montana. There are land transactions starting in Gallatin Co in 1889. He married first in Ravalli Co (1893). He and Lyda had 3 chldren Stella Mae, Joseph Orr & Dovie "Peg"). In 1901 he married Harriet and they had 12 children. There were 2 baby girls stillborn and a set of boy twins. Billie, Robert Jr "Bob", William "Bill", Grace, Floyd, Virginia "Babe", Hugh "Bud", Lester, Leif and Vernon.
Along with many land transactions and farming he owned an auto dealership (Star Auto) in Missoula and managed a hotel in Superior, Mineral Co.
In Apr 1937 he was in Spokane WA with a couple of his sons planning a trip to Arkansas to visit with one of his brothers. They didn't make the trip due to him having a heart attack.
