Henry Schlaefer was born November 16, 1855 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Henry and Anna (Fadeley) Schlaefer. He had been married twice. His first marriage was in October 1886 in Moscow, Idaho and ended in divorce in May 1920. In December 1921, he married again in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. His four children were Wallace Clayton Schlaefer of U.S. Navy, Boyd Blondon Schlaefer of Wenatchee, Vera Virginia Lemon of Baker, Oregon, and Phyllis Schlaefer of Spokane, Washington.
MILITARY RECORD:
Enlisted as a Private on June 19, 1878 in Baltimore, Maryland; served with Company "I", 21st U. S. Infantry during the Bannock Indian War and was honorably discharged with the rank of Corporal on June 18, 1883 at Vancouver, Washington Territory.
Admitted to Washington Veterans' Home on October 12, 1925. He passed away February 16, 1936 at the Veterans Home Hospital and is buried in the Home cemetery.
