Visitation will be held from 4 to 9 p.m. today at Bismarck Funeral Home with prayer services at 7 p.m. Visitation continues one hour prior to services at the church.
John was born in Bismarck, to Elmer and Lydia (Drefs) Folmer. At the age of 4 his mother died and his Aunt Bertha helped raise him with his father. He attended Regan High School and joined the Navy in 1943, where he served in the Lucian Islands. John also participated in many service organizations and marched in the color guard. He was also a longtime member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Wing. He married Violet Smith Dec. 3, 1947. He worked various jobs until he became employed at Midwest Motors Express for 28 years. He retired in 1989. Violet died Feb. 25, 1996. They were married for 49 years. He resided in Wing until moving to Bismarck in 2006. He loved to garden, do cross word puzzles, dance and play the harmonica. He was proud of his children and grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Violet; his parents; and one brother, James.
