PORTSMOUTH - Vernon Edward Ryder Jr., 76, died Sunday, Nov. 17, 2002.
He was a native of Portsmouth and a member of Western Branch Baptist Church. He was a former vice president of George Tait and Sons, an avid train photographer, and an Army veteran of World War II.
Mr. Ryder is survived by his wife of 50 years, Betty H. Ryder; two sons, Edward P. Ryder Sr. of Richmond and Clark E. Ryder of Portsmouth; three grandchildren, Buzzy, Amy and Joey; and a great-grandson, Carter.
A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Loving Funeral Home, Churchland Chapel, by the Rev. George F. Mullinax, with burial in Evergreen Memorial Park. The family will receive friends in the funeral home one hour prior to the funeral, and suggests that memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society or to Western Branch Baptist Church.
