Addie Lou Pirtle Age 96, of Tucson, passed away on July 8, 2004, after a long struggle with Alzheimer's in Roseburg, OR. She is survived by three sons; and two daughters, Lynwood Pirtle of Amarillo, TX, Joe Pirtle of Hemet, CA, Jack Pirtle, and Fair Sobel of Tucson, and Anne Hope of Roseburg, OR. She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Farris Pirtle. In addition to her children, she had 16 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren. Addie Lou was born and raised in TX, the third daughter of Charlie and Rosie James. She was one of nine children, survived by only her sister, Joy Erb of Carpinteria, CA. Addie Lou loved children and proudly called herself an elementary school teacher. She knew how to treat her own children and the children of others with love and respect. She retired from teaching after 42 years and then helped her sons and daughters in the raising of their children. She was much loved by her own children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, all of whom benefited from her love of family. Lucky were those of us fortunate enough to call her Mom, Mother, Nanna, or Great-Nanna. Addie Lou was a Tucson resident from 1974-1988. A memorial service is being held on Sunday, December 19, at 4:00 p.m. in the Chapel at Catalina United Methodist Church.
