Son of James William Richardson (1797 - ? and Harriet Ann Forbes Richardson (1808 - ?) and brother of William J. Richardson, Andrew J. Richardson and Harriet Ann Richardson Lemon.

His war record as shown by the archives of Stonewall Camp, C.V., follows:

Enlisted as private in Company K, Ninth Virginia Regiment, April 17, 1861; transferred to signal corps and made sergeant in May, 1862; was stationed at signal stations on the James and Appomattox rivers; detailed August, 1864, as a signal officer of blockade runnerss, until the capture of Wilmington, NC. Left Nassau on the steamer Owl for Galveston, rejoined the army and surrendered May 11, 1865.

Norfolk, VA, April 12 - The funeral of Nestor Forbes Richardson, who died on Monday night at his home in Norfolk County, will take place at noon tomorrow in Monumental Methodist Church, Portsmouth. Interment will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery. Mr. Richardson was identified with the business life of Portsmouth for sixty years, his business career being broken by four years of service in the Confederate Army.
