EVA R. HAWKINS
HOOSICK - Word has been received here of the death on Dec. 2, of Eva Rudd Hawkins, 84, of St. Petersburg, Fla., formerly of Hoosick Falls. Upon her death, she was the last survivor of the seven children of David Rudd and the former Flora Russell of Hoosick. She was a direct descendant of Joseph Rudd, who fought in the American Revolution.
Mrs. Hawkins was chief librarian of the National Health Library in New York for many years, retiring in 1965. She also arranged exhibits of medical and health books for the annual conferences of the National Health Council and compiled a bibliography for the magazine Mental Hygiene, published by the National Association for Mental Health.
She graduated from Hoosick Falls High School and studied librarianship at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio.
Mrs. Hawkins was a member of the American Library Association, the Medical Library Association and the Special Libraries Association. She was also a member of the Marble Collegiate Church in New York City.
She was married at one time to Reginald Robert Hawkins, who for many years headed the science and technology division of the New York Public Library.
Survivors include her son, Robert Douglas Hawkins of New York; three grandsons; and many nieces and nephews.
