MOCKSVILLE - Lester David "Pete" Sain, 84, of the Oak Grove Community, passed away Monday, Sept. 29, 2008, at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem. He was born March 18, 1924, in Davie County to the late Albert Harris and Rosa Jannie Smith Sain. Mr. Sain was a veteran of the U.S. Navy having served during World War II on the USS Frost. He retired after 42 years of service from Hanes Dye and Finishing. Mr. Sain was a member of Oak Grove United Methodist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Nellie Bowles Sain to whom he had married Oct. 5, 1944; two sisters, Ora Mae Sain Chaffin, Geneva Foster; and three brothers, Casper, Lonnie and Roscoe Sain. Survivors include a wonderful, loyal and dedicated companion, Norma Jean Cope; and his loving family, a daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Richard Poindexter; a son and daughter-in-law, David and Ann Sain; three grandsons, J.B. Turner, and Matt Sain (Kacey Stutts) and Adam Sain (Tiffany Sexton); a great-granddaughter and granddaughter-in-law, Karly and Kelly Turner; two sisters, Sarah Whitaker of Mocksville and Helen Jordan of Hermosa Beach, CA; and a sister-in-law, Evelyn Sain. A funeral service will be conducted at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, October 2, at Oak Grove United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Larry Thompson and the Rev. Greg Little officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church one hour before the service. The family requests that memorials be considered for Oak Grove United Methodist Women or to Kay Hendrix and Peggy Dillon for Homebound Meals, 1994 HWY 158 E, Mocksville, NC 27028. The family wishes to thank Dr. William Scott Moore and the entire medical staff of Forsyth Medical Center, Lexington Dialysis Center, Kevin Mullis, Brandon Rehab, Davie County Home Health, Dr. Melissa Seagle and especially the wonderful nursing staff on the eighth floor of Forsyth Medical Center.
