Lloyd was born on his parents farm 3-1/2 miles south of Montrose, SD. In 1909, at the age of 13, the family moved to Colton, SD due to his father's deteriorating health. He finished his elementary and secondary schooling while attending Augustana Academy in Canton, SD about 1914. After finishing that schooling he was employed as a carpenter by his bother-in-law, Sig Walker, in Colton. On the 22nd of December, 1914 he married June Mabel Aker at the home of her family, Julius and Sarah Aker, in Colton, SD.

Lloyd continued on as a carpenter with Sig Walker until 1920. In the spring of that year he moved his family to a farm located 1-1/2 miles east of Aurora, SD. The family leased and farmed the 320 acre farm until moving to another farm 2 miles north and 1/2 miles west of Aurora in March of 1924. They continued at that farm until 1928 when they moved in March to a farm owned by his father , Lewis Larson, 1 mile west of Forestburg, SD. In 1935 the family moved back to Brookings County on a leased 1/2 section 2 miles southeast of Brookings, SD.

In the interim, 1914 to 1933, their three sons and two daughters were born. In November 1940 his wife, June, died of pneumonia at the Broookings Hospital. In 1943 the family moved to Brookings, SD where Lloyd then returned to carpentry. Sometime later he married Ruby Tolliver, also of Brookings. Together they owned and operated a restaurant in Waseca, MN called the Busy Bee Cafe. In 1946, they sold the Busy Bee. Lloyd & Ruby lived on his parent's original Montrose homestead from 1951 to 1954. They bought and operated restaurants in Tripp, SD and Tyndall, SD. Sometime after acquiring the Tyndall property they sold the Tripp property and concentrated on the one in Tyndall. This cafe was called the "L&R Cafe". During the early part of 1962, Lloyd's health deteriorated and in June 1962, he was hospitalized in Huron, SD for heart problems. His daughter LaJune lived in Huron and was able to to check on her father frequently. While in the hospital, he suffered a stroke which affected his voice and movement. At Ruby's request he was returned to the Tyndall hospital where he died on Aug 18, 1962. After funeral services in Tyndall and in Colton, SD, he was interred in the Zion Cemetery in Colton on Aug 22, 1962.

Loyd was about 5'-10" tall and weighted about 160 pounds. His hair was a dark grey and he always was very neat in his bearing and appearance.

Daughter Audrey remembers Lloyd driving to Brookings from the Montrose homestead (farm) three days in a row and taking her and two friends to the state basketball tournament in Mitchell, SD (at the Corn Palace).
