*************************

Missouri Bosworth Melton Forrest was the daughter of John Melton, Jr. and wife Nancy Boysworth (or Bosworth) Melton.

She was born in Stanly County.

She is mentioned in a land record in Stanly County after the death of her father John Melton Jr. prior to 1860.

Her mother Nancy Boysworth Melton moved to Gold Hill, NC in Rowan County and operated a Hotel there until her death, along with younger sister Laura J Melton Gill. Many people mistake Bosworth (which transformed later into Boysworth) as her maiden name, when it was in fact her middle name in honor of the maiden name of her mother. She was the grand-daughter of Jonathan Boysworth/Bosworth, an early settler in the Montgomery/Stanly County area.

Missouri is accounted for twice in the 1850 census of Stanly County, once with her husband and oldest child, and again in the home of her parents. She perhaps was just visiting that day and acknowledged as a daughter, but the census taker was in error as she had already married Jesse Tatum Forrest by then.
