HISTORY OF LAKE NICHOLSON METHODIST EPISCOPAL CHURCH:
On June 4, 1902, a public announcement was made to meet at the Currey School House to organize a board of Trustees and to vote on the most suitable place for the church.
Two pieces of land were offered but it was decided to accept the two acre piece of land offered and given by Mr. Wm. Quick and was located in Phipps Township 118, Range
55, on the SW corner of the SW ¼ Sec. 12.
John Phillips, Albert Christian and James McLaren were chosen as the Board of Trustees.
June 23, 1902, was the time the next meeting was held and it was decided to take up subscriptions to find out how much could be raised toward the building of the new church. Rev. W.C. Ehlers, John Phillips and James McLaren were to attend to this.
A drive for donations was started and over a hundred families and firms were contacted, also about forty shares of stock were sold. A sum of about $1400.00 was raised, with about $250.00 obtained from the Methodist Church Extension Society.
August 14, 1902, a charter for the church was obtained from Pierre, SD.

James came to USA in 1856 and farmed 9 years in St. Clair, Michigan. In 1865 he returned to Canada and lived there til Spring 1883. May 11, 1883 he filed on property Phipps Co. S.D. Wintered in Canada 1883, then brought his family with him to S.D.
James and Nancy adopted Clifford Youngern.
