Peter Thomas Cherry, a special agent in the service of Seaboard Air Line railway, died at 2:40 o’clock yesterday afternoon at a local hospital, aged 68 years. Mr. Cherry was operated on several days ago. He had been ill the past three months.Mr. Cherry was a native of Norfolk County, the son of Peter and Sallie Martin Cherry, and removed to Portsmouth from Deep Creek Village when a boy. For 25 years he was a member of the city police force, but left the force to take up special agent work for the railroads. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Hattie Russell Cherry; two daughters, Mrs. W. E. Culpepper and Mrs. R. C. Pugh, and six sons, Ernest and Thomas Cherry, of Norfolk, and Linwood, Henry, Jerome, and V. B. Cherry of Portsmouth. He also leaves a sister, Mrs. Charles W. Cain; two brothers, Frederick Cherry, of Portsmouth, and Virginius Cherry, of Richmond and seven grandchildren.Funeral services will be held at 3:30 o’clock tomorrow afternoon at the residence, 314 North Elm Avenue and burial will bin Oak Grove Cemetery.
