[Norfolk Virginian, The (Norfolk, VA) - Friday, January 17, 1873]
We are pained to learn of the death of Dr. Virginius B. Bilisoly which took place Wed eve the 15th instant at 7:30 p. m. at his farm near Bowers Hill in Norfolk County. His illness was a long one alternated with days of hope and days of gloom. But the death messenger came at last and he passed away quiety away like a spark which revives for a moment then goes out forever. He was born in this city August 1826 and received the name Virginius Bartholomew and when he died was in his 47th year. Perhaps none of our citizens were better known or more highly respected than Dr. Bilisoly. His practice in the city was large and increasing until declining health compelled him to forego it and seek rest in the country. During the late war he was present at the battles of Corinth and Shiloh in the capacity of surgeon of an Alabama regiment in the Confederate Army, and afterwards surgeon president of the medical board of Selma, Alabama, under General Dick Taylor. His remains will be brought to this city today by a special train which will start from his late residence on High street for that purpose at 9 a. m. and his funeral will take place from St. Paul's Catholic Church today 10 a. m.
