WILLIAMSTOWN - Bernard V. McAuliffe, 87, of 5th Street, passed away Sunday night at the Hershey Medical Center.
Born in Williamstown, February 25, 1922 a son of the late Edward and Helen Lentz McAuliffe.
He was a graduate of the former Williamstown Catholic High School. Barney served his country in the Army during World War II with the Aleutian Campaign.
After the Army he began working for the Pennsylvania Railroad. He worked most of his life and retired as a welder from Bethlehem Steel.
He was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, Williamstown; a life member of the Williamstown American Legion; and a member of the Williamstown V.F.W.
Barney loved spending time with his family and will be deeply missed by all who knew him. He was an avid reader, enjoyed traveling, hunting and fishing, and was very knowlegable of the Civil War era.
He was predeceased by his wife, Peggy Pennell McAuliffe, 1999; a sister, Mary Fetterhoff; three brothers, Joseph, Francis "Foxie" and Edward McAuliffe.
Surviving are his two daughters, Bunne J. McAuliffe and Brian Kavanagh, Williamstown; and Cher B. Shrawder and her husband Tom, Harrisburg; 1 grandson, Andy Shrawder and his wife Anne, Jeffersonville; 1 great granddaughter, Mollie Shay Shrawder; two sisters, Agnes Moss, Williamstown and Patricia Updegrove, Harrisburg; nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, May 30th at 10 a.m., from Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, Williamstown with Rev. Darrius Moss officiating. Visitation will be from 9-10 a.m., at the church. Following mass a luncheon and time of fellowship will be held at the Williamstown American Legion. Burial with military honors will be held Monday at 10 a.m., from Indiantown Gap National Cemetery.
