OBITUARY.

THE REV. WILLIAM E. HOLYOKE, for more than forty years a Congregational minister, died yesterday morning at his residence, 1170 Washington boulevard, aged 82 years. Mr. Holyoke was born in Marietta, O., and graduated with the first class of Knox college in 1846. He studied at Union college, New York, and, returning to Illinois, held pastorates at Farmington, Elgin, Polo, and Bunker Hill. He came to Chicago in 1868 as pastor of the Wicker Park church, and afterward filled other pulpits in Illinois and Iowa. He had lived in Chicago since 1893, and was a trustee and deacon in the California Avenue church. The Rev. Mr. Holyoke was for more than fifty years a trustee of Knox college. He was married in 1853 and celebrated his golden wedding last June. He left a widow and an adopted son, Charles S. Holyoke of Waukegan.

FUNERAL OF DR. HOLYOKE.

It Will Be Held Tomorrow at California Avenue Church.

The funeral of the Rev. Dr. William E. Holyoke, pastor of the California Avenue Congregational church, who died on Tuesday, will be held tomorrow at the church, California avenue and Monroe street. Several memorial addresses will be delivered. The burial will be in Forest Home cemetery.

Dr. Holyoke died from pneumonia after an illness of five days. He lived for twenty years in Chicago and for sixty years in Illinois and Iowa. He was 82 years old and leaves a widow whom he married fifty years ago, and an adopted son, C. S. Holyoke, of Waukegan. He was connected with many lines of Christian work.
