J.B. BLACKSTONE DIED AT RICHMOND FRIDAY.

Funeral Services for Former Resident Held Here Sunday.

J.B. Blackstone, for many years a resident of this community but who had made his home at Richmond for several years, died there t the home of his daughter, Mrs. H.O. Petree, and Mr. Petree, Friday evening at 5:30 o'clock. He had been in poor health for several years, and about two and a half years ago fell, fracturing a hip. Since that time he has been bedfast.

Jay B. Blackstone son of John Newton Blackstone ad Mary Hannah (Wightman) Blackstone was born November 6, 1866 in Mercer County, Illinois, resided there until the spring of 1909 when he moved to what was known as the Cresswell farm one mile west of Braymer, and he resided there until the spring of 1909 when he moved to what was known as the Cresswell farm one mile west of Braymer, and he resided in the neighborhood of Braymer until January until January 1936 when he fell and injured his hip, since then he has been an invalid at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Harry O. Petree until his death June 24, 1938, having attained the age of 71 years 7months and 18 days.

On January 1st, 1891 he was united in marriage to Laura A. Johnson in Mercer County, Illinois, to this union five children were born, Rex and Bruce of Brayer, Mrs. Nora Petree of Richmonnd, Gayle of Kansas City, and Mrs. Coila Jackson of Polo. He leaves his wife, these five children, five grandchildren, one sister Mrs. Eva Gould of Des Moines, Iowa., two brothers, Will and George of Illinois, and a half brother Harry Blackstone.

Born and reared on the farm, followed that vocation as long as he was able to do so. His friends were everyone who knew him. He was quiet and unassuming, but stood strong and faithful for everything that was right and uplifting. He was a good neighbor, always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone needing his assistance.

Funeral services, conducted by the pastor, Rev. Ralph H. Hicks, were held from the M.E. Church here Sunday afternoon. Burial was at Evergreen cemetery.
