Okie was the last child of Lee Andrew Hurley and Amanda Jane Calhoun. She was a member of the Middle Octorara Presbyterian Church. Surviving are two sons; three daughters; twenty-one grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and a brother, Lynn Hurley.

She has a pre-need marker at White Top Baptist Church Cemetery in Virginia where her husband is buried.
