Bienville Parish Native Dies at 63

Mr. J. P. Caskey, aged 63 years, died at his home here Saturday, June 7th, after an illness extending over a period of several months. Mr. Caskey was one of the the best known and most successful farmers of this section. He was born at the old Caskey home three miles north of Arcadia in March, 1861, and has never lived further than three miles from the old home place.

At the age of sixteen he joined the Arcadia Baptist church. Later, when the Alabama church was organized he was one of the charter members. He lived a consistent Christian life and was loved by all who knew him, numbering his friends by his acquaintances.

He was kindly of disposition, was devoted to his family, a friend to the needy, a good neighbor and a useful citizen who will be greatly missed in Arcadia and surrounding community.

He is preceded in death by his first wife who was Miss Fannie Houston. To this union four children were born, three of whom are living--Mesdames Virgie Allen and Pearl Allen of Minden, and Mr. Jim Caskey of Arcadia. He is also survived by his wife, formerly Mrs. Martha Beard.

The funeral services were held at Alabama cemetery and were conducted by Pastor E. O. Woods of Alabama church, assisted by Rev. H. M. Michael. It is said that one of the largest crowds that ever gathered at Alabama were present to pay their respects to this good man. Another evidence to the place he held in the hearts of his friends was the many beautiful floral offerings which decorated the grave. The Democrat joins with the many friends in extending deepest sympathy to the bereaved family.
