MRS. FRED ALLMANN, FLORENCE ALLMANN COLLISION VICTIMS.
Tragedy struck a Wabash county home over the weekend when a mother and her daughter were killed as the result of a truck-car accident Sunday night at the intersection of Federal Road 27 and the Washington Center road three miles north of Fort Wayne.
The dead are Mrs. Fred (Elizabeth) Allmann, 73, North Manchester R.R. 3, who resided one mile north and four miles east of Urbana on State Road 16. She was killed outright in the crash. And her daughter, Miss Forence E. Allmann, 48, who resided in her parents' home. Miss Allmann died int he St. Joseph's hospital in Fort Wayne at 9:32 o'clock in the evening without regaining consciousness. She was suffering from internal injuries. Miss Allmann was a sixth grade teacher in the Lagro school.
According to the report by the Allen county sheriff's office, it was understood that Miss Allmann drove her vehicle off the Washington Center road into the path of a large grocery truck being operated by Ted Custer, 25, Fort Wayne. He was going north on Federal Road 27 at the time of the crash. He escaped injury. Custer said that the car came to a stop at the preferential highway and then lurched forward without warning just before he reached the intersection. His statement to authoriities was verified by Mr. and Mrs. Richard Thiele, Fort Wayne R.R. 9, and Mr. and Mrs. George Bruick, Fort Wayne R.R. 9, who were driving behind the Allmann car. When the truck hit the Allmann machine on the left side, the two vehicles skidded for 60 feet down the highway. Then the truck veered to the left and shoved the auto off the west berm of the road into the ditch. The cab of the semi-truck jack-knifed to the left and then swung to a 90 degree angle to the trailer. The dashboard of the Allmann auto was shoved backwards and the front seat was pushed back almost through the floor boards of the rear seat. The auto was demolished. Heavy traffic on the road which is a detour road for State Road 427 almost caused a traffic jam, the Allen county sheriff's office reported. The barricades blocking off 427 which is under construction, finally were removed to t relieve congestion at the scene of the crash.
According to Sheriff Sterling Staver, who was called to identify the women, Mrs. Allmann, a paralytic and semi-invalid, had accompanied Miss Allmann, who had returned Miss Catherine Allmann, another daughter and a teacher in the Waterloo schools, to her home. They had left the residence here about 4 o'clock in the afternoon. The mother, despite her physical condition, was able to be taken in a car and merely went along for the ride, the sheriff learned. Sheriff Staver was called for identification when Allen county sheriff's office was unable to determine the identity of the older woman or the correct address. The sheriff, when he telephoned was unable to get an answer and informed the Rev. E.D. Mast, family pastor, who went to the house and notified Mr. Allmann. Mr. Mast remained with Mr. Allman until members of the family arrived.
Double funeral services for Mrs. Allmann and her daughter will be held in the Grace Evangelical United Brethren church Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock with the Rev. E.D. Mast officiating and burial will be in Falls Cemetery, Wabash. The bodies were taken to the Jones Funeral home where friends may call Tuesday and will be taken to the church Wednesday morning at 11 o'clock where friends may call until time for the services.

She was a member of the grace Evangelical Church, Urbana. Survivors include the husband, two other daughters, Mrs. Richard Ulman, Miami county, and Miss Catherine Allmann, Waterloo; two sons, Emerson Allmann, Detroit, Mich., and Ralph Allmann, Arcanum, O.; two sisters, Mrs. George Page and Mrs. A.E. Andrew, both of Seattle, Wash.; two brothers, Emanuel King, Seattle, Wash., and Fred King, Rochester; and two grandchildren.
Miss Allman was born April 7, 1899 in Peru to Fredrick W. and Elizabeth (King) Allmann and had been a Wabash county resident all of her life. She was also a member of the Grace Evangelical United Brethren church.
