Alma Clements Ayers, 98, of Lexington, died Friday, May 22, 2009. She was born August 28, 1910, in Amherst County, a daughter of the late Charles Henley Clements and Emma Tomlin Clements. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, James Melville Ayers; two sons, James Burton Ayers, and Donald Edward Ayers. She was the oldest member of the Kerrs Creek Baptist Church. She is survived by her children, Robert Wayne Ayers and wife, Emily, of Madison, Ala., Janet Ayers Carter, of Buena Vista, Sandra Ayers Rhodes and husband, Dusty, of Columbia S.C., and Ronald Elwood Ayers and wife, Lois, of Lexington; nine grandchildren; and 13 greatgrandchildren; and three greatgreatgrandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 27, 2009, at Harrison Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow in Rockbridge Memorial Gardens.
