Hospital & Medical Center. Betty is survived by her sons, Stephen, Bruce and
Wendell; and daughters, Sharon Moore, Linda Piper, Sandra Wolf and Loretta
Schomus. A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 5, 2010, in Carus Community
United Methodist Church, Oregon City. Arrangements by Holman-Hankins-Bowker &
Waud Funeral Home.

Carlile, Betty Rae 92 11/11/1917 06/01/2010 Betty Rae Carlile, born Nov. 11,1917, in Wellsford, Kan., the youngest child of C.E. Anderson and Lina Lillian
Starkey, died June 1, 2010, in Portland. She was educated in Wellsford and Haviland, Kan., prior to attending Fort Hays State College. Betty played several musical instruments; was a member of the debate, glee and drama clubs; performed public readings; and enjoyed reading and reciting poetry. She learned her love for Christ and mankind from her mother, Lina, whom she considered her best friend and counselor; Betty believed that teaching Sunday school in Wellsford was her most rewarding community service during her early years. She remained a
devout Christian throughout her life. Betty left college and married Alfa Booker Carlile, Jan. 12, 1940. The couple moved to Grand Coulee, Wash., and eventually settled in Southeast Portland's Woodstock neighborhood. Betty always stayed close to her seven children, taught home economics as a 4-H leader, and was both a Boy and Girl scout leader. Betty was not only a loving mother and grandmother,
but she expressed her love and care to everyone she met. Betty retired after working more than 20 years as a nurse's aide at Good Samaritan Hospital in Portland. Al and Betty moved to their Carus farm in 1975, where she was a member of the Carus United Methodist Church, and served as president of the women's group. They celebrated 60 years of marriage at the time of Al's death on March
17, 2000. All seven children, Sharon, Bruce, Linda, Sandra, Stephen, Loretta,and Wendell, survive her. Betty is also survived by a sister, Winifred Stedman, of Lacey, Wash.; brother and sister-in-law, Harold and Linda Carlile, of Beavercreek; 17 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. Services were held Saturday, June 5, 2010, in the
Carus United Methodist Church with burial in Beavercreek Cemetery.
