An area resident all of his life, he was born March 14, 1930, in the town of Randolph, the son of Walter W. and Mildred Wave Clark Abbey.
He attended Randolph Central School. Prior to his illness, he was employed the Randolph Children's Home New Directions for the past 15 years. In earlier years, he was employed by the former Aeolian Corp. in Randolph. He was a member and trustee of Levant Wesleyan Church in Falconer, a former member, deacon and Sunday school teacher for the First Baptist Church of Randolph.

He enjoyed antique cars, riding motorcycle, woodworking and was an avid bowler.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara F. Roth Abbey, whom he married June 23, 1956, in First Baptist Church of Randolph; a son, David D. Abbey Sr. of Jamestown; two daughters: Diane L. Jarosz of Jamestown and Denise L. Scheib of Kresgeville, Pa.; seven grandchildren: David D. and Jessica M. Abbey, Amanda C. Butcher, Amber R. and Chelsea A. Jarosz and Mellisa M. and Jake Frederick Scheib; a great-grandson; and three sisters: Joyce Reynolds and Shirley Abbey, both of Randolph and Elsie Hodges of California.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Debra L. Abbey, who died in 1966; two brothers: Stanley ''Jim'' and Robert Abbey; and a sister, Edna Loucks.
