Corporal Robert F. Comer , Civil War veteran, served in Company F of the 1st Tennesse Mounted Infantry (USA). He enlisted on February 1, 1864 and mustered on March 21, 1864.

He was the son of William Comer & Nancy Jane Welch Comer, born on April 7, 1847 and died on October 8, 1924 at the age of 77.

Robert served as sheriff of Monroe County (1884-1887), built the old Monroe County courthouse, served in the KY State Legislature.

GAMALIEL CEMETERY TRUSTEE 1906-1919.

He married Mary Francis Harlin (daughter of James Harlin and Mary "Polly" Crawford) on November 22, 1866. Had 12 children: Melissa Comer Ferguson; Lora Comer Moore; Oss Peyton Comer; Joe Comer; Genoa Comer Bickers; Hattie Comer; Maud Comer Harlin; Jefferson Jesse Comer; Ruby Comer Thompson; James Harlin Comer; Oral Estes Comer; and William Basil Comer.

He is buried between his wife Mary & his daughter Hattie. Plat 1; Row 23; Grave Number 38.
