"Civil War Veteran
Private, 47th Regiment, Illinois Infantry. As a new recruit from Peoria, he started in Company A with James P. Hervey on September 26, 1862. They were transferred together into the consolidated Company C, and both mustered out on July 20, 1865. Their unit took part in the Central Mississippi Campaign, Jackson, the Siege of Vicksburg, the Red River Campaign, The Battle of Pleasant Hill, and the Siege and Capture of Fort Blakely."
