PERCY A. BATEMAN

MATHEWS - Percy Alexander Bateman, 80, died on Monday, Dec. 4 at his residence in Richmond.

Mr. and Mrs. Bateman were former residents of both Gloucester and Mathews Counties. They made their home in Gloucester in recent years where they owned and operated the Virginia Antique Shop.

Mr. Bateman, a native of Baltimore, Md., was retired from the Maryland Casualty Insurance Co. He was a member of Mystic Circle Lodge No. 109 AF & AM, Baltimore.

Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Maude Callis Bateman; three sons, Edward J. Bateman of New York City, Charles B. Bateman of Ipswich, Mass. and John W. Bateman of Stonybrook, Long Island, N.Y.; seven grandchildren and one great grandchild.

The funeral cortege left Foster Funeral Home, Mathews, at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 6 for a graveside service at Old Field Point Family Cemetery, Moon, conducted by the Rev. Chester L. Phelps with fraternal rites by Oriental Lodge No. 20, AF & AM, Mathews.

Members of the Masonic Lodge served as pallbearers.
