NORRIS CLEEK

Glenn County has lost a distinguished lifelong resident. Norris Cleek, of Orland, died at his home Sunday following a lengthy battle with cancer.
He was born October 10, 1907 to Vincent Corder Cleek and Myra Norris Cleek in an Orland home a few miles from where he spent his 78 years of life.
Cleek was the fifth generation of a family whose entry to the Orland area dated to 1850 after ancestors of both his parents crossed the continent in covered wagons.
He graduated from the Orland High School in 1926 and then briefly studied at the Chico Normal College (the present Chico State University). He and his father were partners in a large farm since 1926. Mr. Cleek was active in various farm organizations and community groups, was a former trustee in the local school district, and was an avid duck hunter. He was an exuberant booster for local school athletic events when his sons participated.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, the former Helen Seiersen of Capay; a daughter, Joan Cleek Preston of Whittier; three sons, Vincent Norris Cleek of Orland, Gerald Elgin Cleek of Paradise, and Norris Eugene Cleek, M.D. of Orland; and eight grandchildren.
Graveside services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Odd Fellows Cemetery by the Rev. David Sotelo of the Orland Evangelical Free Church.
Memorial bequests to the American Cancer Society will be appreciated. – Transcribed by E.
