Morlan, Richard Leon, 83, died at his home, Saturday, May 16, 2009. He was born May 21, 1925 at Protection, Kansas to Alva and Grace Morlan who preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife, Martha of 62 years; brothers, Maurice (Bobbie), Bill (Margaret), Don (Collene); sister, Marjory (Bill); brother-in-law, Ralph Shrauner and his wife, Neoma; many nieces and nephews. Leon graduated from Protection High School in 1942. He enlisted and served in the army in the European Theatre, receiving a Purple Heart. Leon attended Fort Hays State University and received a degree in agriculture. He taught school for 9 years before working full time in the crop insurance business in production and adjusting crop losses. A celebration of Leon's life will be held at First Presbyterian Church, Wednesday, May 20 at 10:00 A.M. followed by an inurnment at 4:00 P.M. at Protection Cemetery in Protection, KS. A memorial in his memory has been established at First Presbyterian Church, 525 N. Broadway, Wichita, KS 67214. Downing & Lahey Mortuary West.
