The Fourth Michigan Infantry
These are the final resting places of the men who served in the Fourth Michigan Volunteer Infantry during the American Civil War.
Charles Bates , of Williams County, Ohio, enlisted as a Private in Company B of the Fourth Michigan Infantry on June 20, 1861. The nineteen-year-old had volunteered for three years of service and was mustered into Federal service on the same date. He was later discharged for disability on September 6, 1861, at Fort Woodbury, near Arlington, Virginia. Research seems to indicate that shortly afterwards, Charles enlisted as a Private in the 68th Ohio Infantry on October 16, 1861. He was promoted several times until finally being mustered out of service on April 9, 1865.
