Enlisted in Confederate States Army on 11 March 1864 and was mustered as a Private, Company A, 45th North Carolina Infantry. Edward died of disease as a POW on 22 Jul 1864 in Washington, DC. Buried at Arlington Cemetery but after the war in the 1880's was removed to Oakwood Cemetery.
