Mrs. Martinson Called by Death

It is with a pang of deep sorrow that we chronicle the passing of another of those worthy pioneers that braved privation and a multitude of discomforts to make a home in a sparsely settled district in which all were compelled to strive untiringly to make a start in a new land.
Karen, wife of the late Carl Martinson, town of Eden, died Tuesday evening, February 6, at the home of her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. August Hagen, near Olga, from hardening of the arteries.
Although in her 74th year, Mrs. Martinson had apparently been in good health until Christmas time, and since then had been about until only a week before her death.
Born in Wermeland, Sweden, June 5, 1860, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Paulson, she came to the United States in the year 1883, first living at Hickson, N.D. Three years later she married Carl Martinson.
Two years after their marriage (in 1888), they came to this section, locating upon the homestead in Eden township and residing there continuously until the death of Mr. Martinson in 1929. Since then, Mrs. Martinson has made her home with Mr. and Mrs. Hagen.
There was one son and two daughters. Clark Martinson, who died in 1928; Mrs. August Hagen (Mabel) of Olga and Mrs. McGriff (Hilda) of Bemidji. Four grandchildren are living; also three brothers and two sisters, Paul and Lars of Eden and Carl of Gully; Mrs. C. Kjos (Hilda) of Bonners Ferry, Idaho and Mrs. Louis Olson (Mary) of Eden.
Mrs. Martinson was devout member of Salem congregation and an energetic member of the Ladies Aid of that church. Noted for her fine handiwork, she was a person on strong character, industrious and kindly. She will be greatly missed by the church people and by the entire community.
Services will be held this Saturday afternoon, conducted by Rev. J.O. Saeter at the home 1:30 and in Salem church at two o'clock.
