Celebration of life services for Sally Leila H. Cassady, 93, were held Saturday, May 23, at Powers Funeral Home with burial in Quaker Cemetery. Rev. Richard Cameron and Rev. Joe Stines officiated.

Mrs. Cassady, wife of the late David E. Cassady, died Wednesday, May 20, 2009. Born in Kershaw County, she was a daughter of the late James H. and Susan Fogge Hinson. She was the last survivor of the Cleveland School Fire and was featured on PBS in 2008 to tell her memories of that tragic event.
She was a member of New Life Christian Outreach and a former member of Bethel Pentecostal Holiness Church and Lugoff Christian Ministries where she wrote drama's, taught Sunday school, and was Vacation Bible School Director. She enjoyed reading and gardening.
Surviving are her son, Mendel E. "Gene" Cassady and his wife, Audrey of Lugoff; daughters, Carol S. Bennett and her husband, Ray of Camden, and Patricia L. Cassady of Lugoff; 21 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren; and 7 great great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by sons, James D. Cassady, Lawson H. Cassady, and Richard M. Cassady; daughter, Elizabeth A. Gardner; brothers, Claude Hinson, Harold Hinson, and James Cooley Hinson; and sisters, Clara Woodson, Hattie Mae Blake, and Louise Brunson.

Mrs. Cassady was a very unique and special lady. Very devoted to her God, her family, and her church. A woman of prayer and someone that could be counted on to interceed. A very special lady.
