He served in King Philip's War and was a sergeant at the Turner's Falls Fight.

Robert Bardwell was a hatter who came from London, where he was an apprentice to a hatter in 1667; he learned a new branch of the business in the United States, the making of wool hats. After the war, he settled in Hatfield, and set up a hatter's shop.

He was the husband of Mary Gull, married on Nov 29,1676 at Hatfield,MA.

Children: Ebenezer Bardwell, Mary Bardwell, John Bardwell, Samuel Bardwell, John Bardwell, Elizabeth Bardwell, Thomas Bardwell, Hester Bardwell Belding, Sarah Bardwell Barrett, Thankful Bardwell Graves, and Abigail Bardwell Graves.
