Jacob R. Amen, 92 of Sterling, died Dec. 23, 1996, in Sterling. Visitation and viewing will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Chaney-Walters Funeral Home. The funeral will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday at Zion United Church of Christ with the Rev. Ken Redfeorn officiating. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery.
Mr. Amen was born May 22, 1904, to John Sr. and Catherine (Frick) Amen in McCook, NE. The family homesteads in the Proctor and Crook areas, later moving south of Sterling, where he farmed with his father. He married Mary Ring on April 3, 1932, in Sterling. In 1940 they moved to Iliff, farming there until 1957. They moved back north of Sterling, farming there for three more years. He then worked for the E. E. Sonnenberg Feedlot from 1960 until he retired in 1976. Mr. Amen was a member of Zion United Church of Christ, and the men's fellowship groups of the church. He was also active with 4-H groups, the Logan County Fair, and the Boy Scouts.
He is survived by his wife Mary of Sterling; two sons, Alan and wife Delores Amen of Lakewood, and Charles of Sterling; two daughters, Betty Schlueter and husband Ray of Sterling, and Jeanne Crouch of Sterling; two sisters, Rachel Roth of Snyder, and Rose Lloyd of Wheatridge; a brother John, Jr. and wife Mary of Sterling; eight grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by an infant daughter Nancy; sisters Kate, and Esther; a brother Harry, who was killed in action during World War II. Memorials may be made to Meals on Wheels of the Zion United Church of Christ. (Journal-Advocate, Sterling, CO, Dec 24, 1966)
