The following was the Obit. hand written by Elizabeth (Mary) Sherman Bowman wife of a Arville Bowman the son of Margaret and her first husband Nathaniel Bowman. Provided to Al Chapman by Ethel Pickens.

"Mrs.M.E. Pickens was born April 17, 1835 in Tennessee and died April 16, 1913, two and one-half miles northwest of Anderson, Missouri at the home of her son, Frank Pickens. She was 78 yrs old and had been in fair health until she took a severe cough, seemingly the grip, which lasted about four weeks, she was apparently better in many respects for a few days, being at one time, able to sit in a chair. Then some new trouble set in from which she suffered untold agony until a few minutes of her death. She was sick altogether nine weeks. Mother Pickens was converted when young and united with the Baptist church at Hope Well, Morgan Co.,MO. About the year 1875 they moved to McDonald Co, and she joined the Presbyterian Church in which she lived a christian life until her death. She was the last and oldest child of Jeremiah Cunningham, the others having preceded her in death. Those that watched by her side witnessed her prayers to go home and be relieved from her suffering. When the end came she passed out peacefully to the beyond where surely she will have all the glory and peace and happiness that is due any loving christian mother. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. D.A. Collins in the New Bethel Church where many relatives and friends gathered to pay the last tribute of respect to a dear relative and friend. The casket was decked with carnations and ferns."

As indicated above she married Nathanial Bowman Aug. 26,1858 in Hancock Co.,IL and to this union there were two sons; Oscar Bowman and Lorenzo Arville Bowman. Nathaniel was born in 1833 in Pennsylvania. She and Nathaniel later moved to Charlotte, Bates Co.,MO. He died in Ft. Smith, AR on Dec.5,1862. She married Cornelius Pickens Mar. 6,1866 in Morgan Co.,MO There were 2 sons from this union; W. Franklin and George Pickens.

According to the 1850 census, her father Jeremiah was married to Anna Cunningham and they had 9 children: Matilda C., Margaret E., John W., Martha A., James A., Malinda J., Wm K.P., Columbus T. & Sarah A. Cunningham. They lived in Dist.2, Polk, TN.
