John Alexander Anderson, 96, of 2730 Quincy Ave., died Tuesday, Jan 1, 1980, at his home.
He was born Jan. 31, 1883, in Kanesville, Utah, a son of Bennett and Margaret Moyes Anderson.
He married Ethel M. Bingham on May 1, 1907, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. She died Sept. 29, 1978.
He had worked as a livestock dealer. He had started the first garbage collection in Ogden City in 1921, using team and wagons. He was also a contractor with the Ogden Union Railway and Depot Co., supplying sand for the stock cars from 1927 to 1963 at the Ogden Stockyards. He had also been a farmer.
He was a High Priest in the Ogden 52nd Ward. He had been the superintendent of the Sunday school in the Wilson Ward. He had served in the High Priest Group Presidency in the Ogden 19th Ward, and he had served as a ward teacher for over 50 years.
He had lived in Kanesville and Wilson Lane before moving to Ogden.
Surviving are one son and three daughters, Norman J. Anderson, Mrs. Axel (Gladys) Romer, Mrs. Robert (Wilma) Yates, all of Ogden; Mrs. Chester (Mildred) Bruce, South Ogden; 15 grandchildren; 48 great-grandchildren; 7 great-great-grandchildren. Also surviving is one sister, Mrs. Spencer (Bertha) Bingham, Burley, Idaho.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 1 p.m. in the Myers Mortuary Chapel in Ogden with Bishop Spencer P. Loughton of the Ogden 52nd Ward officiating. Friends may call Thursday from 6 to 8 pm. and Friday prior to service. Interment in the Ogden City Cemetery.
