Confederate soldier: Texas 17th Cavalry, Company B, CSA. The 17th was recruited by Col. George Moore at Tyler, from Smith and surrounding counties, in early 1862, and most were captured at the Battle of Arkansas Post on 11 January 1863. He died while a prisoner of war at the Camp Douglas Post Hospital on 27 February 1863 of pneumonia in Ward 12.
