Betty Mae Koehler, 78, of 2133 E. Wilmar Drive, Quincy, Illinois, passed away Monday, May 11, 2009, in her home. She is survived by her husband, John N. Koehler.

Mrs. Koehler was born April 1, 1931 in Alexandria, Missouri, daughter of the late Lester L. Ambrose and Bessie Mae Gates Ambrose. She was raised in the Augusta Illinois area. She married Bernard Wayne Myers in Hancock County on June 12th 1948. Mr. Myers died May 8th, 1957. Betty and John Koehler were united in marriage in Quincy, Illinois on August 24, 1968.

Betty was an active member of Union United Methodist Church and served as President and Treasurer of the United Methodist Women for many years. She served on the Board of the Local Chapter of Illinois League of Municipal Employees both at the local and state level. Mrs. Koehler was also an active member of the Elks Auxiliary, holding the position of President and Treasurer. Betty was a fifty year member of the Alpha Chapter #109 of the Eastern Star and the White Shrine of Jerusalem.

Mrs. Koehler retired in 1991 after 25 years of employment as a Licensed Practical Nurse with the Adams County Health Department.

Mrs. Koehler is survived by son, Dana Wayne (Annie) Myers of Quincy, Illinois; son Steven Douglas (Julie) Myers of Sunrise Beach, Missouri; daughter Rebecca Mae (Randy) Goerlich of Tucson, Arizona; son Steven O. (Darlene) Koehler of Beecher City, Illinois; son John Bradley (Brenda) Koehler of West Liberty, Illinois; nineteen grandchildren and twenty great-grandchildren; her sister, Shirley (Wm. Sonny) Niekamp of Quincy; and her brother Frank E. (Margaret) Hedrick of Mansfield, Texas.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, Edward Ambrose, James Hedrick, and Donald Hedrick.

Funeral services will be held Thursday morning at 10:30 in the Union United Methodist Church with Rev. Bob Morwell officiating. Burial will be in Greenmount Cemetery.

Visitation will be held Wednesday evening from 4:00 pm to 7:00 in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home and Thursday morning from 9:30 until the time of services at the church.

Memorials may be made to Union United Methodist Church or to the Blessing Cancer Center.
