He was born Oct 7, 1931, in Hitchcock to John Palmer and Anna Leslie McCartney and died Wednesday, May 13, 2009, at his home.

He served in the Army during the Korean War and then served five more years in the Army Reserve.

He married Elsie Davis March 13, 1954, in Kingfisher. They made their home in Bison, where he worked in the oil fields and Bison-Waukomis co-ops for most of his life.

Surviving are his wife, Elsie, of the home; two sons, Ed McCartney and Calvin McCartney; three daughters, Debbie McCartney, Cindy Reed and Wanda McCartney; one brother, Chancy McCartney; one sister, Olive Schroeder; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one son, six brothers and six sisters.
