Adele Smith Silverman, 92, passed away on Thursday, May 6, 1999.

Adele Smith Silverman was born on November 13, 1906 in Gatesville, Texas. the daughter of pioneer Texans, William Arlington Smith and Mary Holland Whiteley.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Whiteley Smith and John R. Smith and sisters Arline Smith Martin, Zuella Smith Highsmith, and Mabel Smith Hall White. Also predeceasing Mrs. Silverman was her husband of 40 Years, Jakie Silverman.

Mrs. Silverman was a beloved aunt and school teacher. She retired in 1973 from the Hearne Public School system after career of 40 years during which she touched the lives of hundreds of students.

Mrs. Silverman is survived by her nieces Mable Hall McMillan of Corpus Christi and Marydele Highsmith Henze of Mathis, and by her nephews Isaac D. White of Dallas, Dr. William Arlington White of Belton, Lt. Col. (ret.) William Samuel Highsmith of Pensacola, Florida, James H. Martin of Belton and Norman McCarver of Hearne. She also has numerous great nieces and nephews and great great nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 2:00 p.m. Monday, May 10, 1999 at the Grace United Methodist Church in Hearne, Texas with burial to follow at Norwood Cemetery, Hearne, Texas.

In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made to Grace United Methodist Church of Hearne, Texas or the Hearne Heritage League.
