Bessie was the daughter of Ernest C. and Hazel Robbins Frye. She first married Lee F. Adams in 1933 and later married Gordon Witherell in 1947. She had two sons and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She enjoyed square dancing, playing cards and spending winters in Florida. She was a fan of the Red Sox and was one of the first and last customers each season at the frozen-custard stand in New Gloucester. She was a longtime member of the First Congregational Church of Gray.
Bessie and her husband owned and operated a Dairy Queen in Rumford and the Little HOBO Restaurant in Lewiston.
