Lucinda, d/o Henry Hickman Bruner & Sarah A. Bridger. Married James West 1842, Martin Co., Indiana, Three daughters & two sons ; Sarah E, m. Alvin B. Asher;Wm. Hickman; Mary Ann m. Geo. R. Clark; Melissa Catherine m.m Ellwood Buckworth and Benjamin Eli West. After death of James Lucinda married Samuel Butcher 1869, Mercer Co., MO. They had daughters Emma & Ida May and adopted Samuel Allen Light from a orphan's home in St Louis before 1880 census. The Decator Journal newspaper story Nov 26, 1914 gives terrible detail of death of Mrs Lucinda Butcher. She was seated in her chair on second floor of her home when her clothing caught fire from her pipe. Her son Benjamin West had gone outside to collect wood for fire and was talking to his wife and mother in law, Mrs Tadlock when he smelled smoke. He was totally blind but sounded the alarm and rushed inside and up the stairs to his mother's room. He was too late as his mother had died when her chair and carpet around it had burned.
She has been a resident of Lineville for more than forty years and a widow for about 35 years living with her son the last two years.
The funeral has held in her home, services conducted by Rev. A. McKee of M.E. Church
I have a photo of Lucinda's daughter Ida standing next to my grandfather, Samuel Allen Light when he was about 14 years old and another photo of her when Ida was older.. The photo was taken in Lineville, Iowa. Was the Bruner or Butcher family related to Samuel Allen Light/Like or did Samuel Butcher find him when he took Benjamin to blind school in St Louis ?
