Sandy "Boss" Schlenker passed away at the age of 69 after a short but brave fight with bone cancer. She was the youngest child of Major Jay Bortle, Jr. and Marion Florence Grundman. She married her high school sweetheart, Howard Kingsley "Corky" Schlenker on October 25, 1958. She was active in the West Bloomfield Historical Society, served as the town historian and genealogist, and was the author of 4 books. She worked every day at their farm, and owned and operated the Schlenker Farm Market for 50 years. Sandy loved the outdoors - skiing, hiking, camping, cycling, and gardening, and she loved to travel. She was always busy, always involved in something. Sandy always had a smile for you, a kind word, and always had time to talk, no matter how busy she was. She is survived by her loving husband, three sons, four grandchildren whom she adored, and her brother and sister. She was predeceased by her eldest son, David. Sandy was a pillar of the community and will be greatly missed by all.
