Founder of the town of Dover Ohio

The house of Christian Deardorff was selected as the first voting place, and the first Monday in April, 1810, was the date of the earliest election in Dover township.

1817, he secured a post office and became Postmaster, and also started the first store in the front part of his cabin on Lot 8, Front street, now the residence of Ferdinand Brooks. He remained the sole merchant of the village until about 1825.
