Alvarado, Johnson Co., Texas, July 20 - William A. Prestridge, 62 years old, pioneer citizen of Johnson County, died at his home in Alvarado Wednesday afternoon. He was born in Choctaw County, Alabama, in 1861, coming to Johnson County, Texas, in 1866. He was an active member of the Baptist Church, a prominent druggist of Alvarado for thirty-five years and one of the best known citizens of Johnston County.
Mr. Prestridge was married in 1892 to Miss Carrie J. Clarke, daughter of the late Rev. J. R. Clarke, one of the best known ministers of the gospel in Texas in his day. Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon at the Baptist Church, the Rev. B. F. Dickson officiating. Burial was at Glenwood Cemetery. Mr. Prestridge is survived by his wife, Mrs. Carrie J. Prestridge; one son, Clark Prestridge of Dallas ; one daughter, Mrs. Ernest Hallman of Grand View; one brother, Dr. B. G. Prestridge of Alvarado; one sister, Mrs. Charles Voss of Dallas ; two grandsons and a large number of relatives. (Dallas Morning News, Dallas, TX., July 21, 1923)
