Husband of Elizabeth, nee Ransford, Frakes whom he married 1 March 1861 in Sullivan County, Indiana.

They were the parents of David Frakes, Commodore Perry Frakes, Joseph Russell Frakes and Luther Elwood Frakes.

They also had two daughters who died young, Mary Jane (born @ 1865) is found on the 1870 census at age five with her parents and Alice Elizabeth (born @ 1871) is found on the 1880 census at age nine with her parents. Both most likely died in the Fairbanks area, site of burials unknown at this time.

Hiram was the son of Daniel and Agnes, nee Harris, Frakes.

He received a Civil War veteran's pension starting 13 July 1881. His pension record states he was an unassigned recruit with the Indiana Volunteers, 7th Congressional District of Indiana. After his death, Elizabeth received a pension beginning 10 July 1902.
