Dr.John Mulkey Savage was born 27 Nov 1807, in Barren Co., Kentucky. He was the son of Dr.William Savage Jr. and Susannah Bolling Williams. John was small in stature, very powerful, had a prominent nose and heavy shaggy over-hanging eyebrows. He belonged to the Presbyterian Church, was a Democrat, a farmer and a Medical Dr. by profession. He was highly respected by all who knew him. He married Cynthia Jane Crawford, 02 April 1830, in Boonville, Cooper Co., Missouri. To this union were born his 1st five children:

John married his 2nd wife Jane Waite, 22 Sept. 1842, in Jackson Co., Kentucky. Jane Waite was keeping house for John Mulkey and Cynthia Jane at the time of Cynthia Jane's death. Before she died Cynthia Jane told John Mulkey that she wanted him to marry Jane Waite as soon as he could after her death. She said that she would be good to the children and that she was a good house keeper. This he did 4 months later. John and his 2nd wife Jane came across the plains from Missouri to Oregon, April - Oct. 1850. They brought three of John Mulkey's brother, William Riley Savage's, children with them to Oregon. Their parents had both been killed in the Fort Parker Texas massacre, of 1836. To their union were born ten children:

John Mulkey married his third wife Lucinda A (Jones) Hosier, 17 Dec 1876, at the home of Elder Abner Shanks in Howell Prairie, Marion Co., Oregon. She died just two years after their marriage.
John Mulkey's 4th marriage was to Raganha S. Choate, 06 Dec 1881, Marion Co., Oregon. There were no children by either of the last two marraiges.
