OBITUARY: Boonville, Indiana Standard - July 5, 1883:
DIED-Thursday, June 28th, 1883, at 12:30 o'clock a.m., Samuel H. Curtis, aged 70 years, 8 months and 19 days. Mr. Curtis was one of the old citizens of this county. He was born in Prarren county, Kentucky, on the 12th day of October, 1812. In 1830 he began steamboating on the Ohio and Mississippi rivers, which avocation he followed in the capacity of watchman and mate, until 1839, when he moved on the farm where he died, having lived here continuously ever since, except for two years that he resided at Newburgh. Mr. Curtis was a man of unswerving fidelity; his word being always considered by those who knew him as good as his bond; his hospitality was unbounded, never having forgotten his early training received by him in his old Kentucky home. He was a man of strong convictions; he never allowed the character of his friends or neighbors traduced in his presence; he never failed or feared to advocate his principles boldly. In religion he was conservative; he professed it about twenty years ago, under the ministration of Revs. McConnel and Patterson, and connected himself with the C.P. Church, and lived a consistant member of the same to the hour of his death. He died surrounded by his entire family, consisting of his widow and four children; Fred M. Curtis, Mrs. J.M. Hillyard, Mrs. T.E. Bennett and Mrs. C.W. Armstrong, all of whom had watched over him and done all that humanity could do in his long continued sickness. His funeral service was conducted by Mr. Bonner, who in life was his neighbor and friend. His remains were lain away in the Ellis Cemetery, to where they were followed by a large concourse of friends and neighbors.

NOTE: The obituary states that Mr. Curtis was born in Prarren Co., Kentucky. There was/is no county by that name in Kentucky. I believe the name of the county should be Barren county.
