A Memorial Service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, April 12, in the First Baptist Church Chapel (in Abilene), with Rev. James Teel officiating. Graveside
services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. in Roaring Springs Cemetery, Roaring Springs, Texas, with Jud Powell officiating, under the direction of Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory. Visitation will be in the church
parlor following the service Friday.
Mrs. Hicks was born in Truby, TX, the daughter of E.W. and Alice Freeman Basham. She married Rev. Alvis L. Hicks December 20, 1923 in Roaring Springs.
She was a dormitory supervisor at Wayland Baptist University from 1954-60 and later at Hardin-Simmons University from 1960-70. She moved to Abilene from Plainview in 1960. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Esther Bible
Club, LLL Club at First Baptist, Lois Lightbearers Sunday School Class, Fellowship of Former Faculty and Staff at Hardin-Simmons University, and AARP.
Mrs. Hicks was preceded in death by her husband in 1954, her infant daughter Alma Lee, three sisters and two brothers.
Survivors include a son, Claude Hicks and wife, Jenny, of Abilene; three daughters, Mrs. Bert (Marie) Stockard of Levelland, TX, Alice Scarborough of Petersburg, TX, and Mrs. Kenneth (Louise) Street of Sherman, TX,; 3 grandsons,
Joe Scarborough of Lubbock, TX, Marc Scarborough of Tulia, TX, and Greg Street of Sherman, TX; 3 granddaughters, Linda Powell of Abilene, Cheryl Rushing of Plano, TX, and Julianna Scarborough of Canyon, TX; 10 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.
